We are drawing closer to the last few days of the calendar year 2022. These months from September to December were one of celebration with occasions as Jubilees, Annual days, Sports days and such other attractive events that kept us fully engaged. For the Bethany Educational Society (BES), the month of September 2022 was very significant as it stepped into the Platinum Jubilee year. My heart is over come with a deep sense of joy and gratitude to God for His rich and bountiful graces and blessings that have accompanied the BES journey right from the time it was registered on 4 September 1948.
During the past seven decades and a half, BES has embraced India, educated all especially the poor, empowered girls and women, taught students values and morals, guided teachers to excel, encouraged research work and innovation, upheld patriotism and prepared leaders for India. There wouldn’t be BES if not for that upright soul, Servant of God Mgr RFC Mascarenhas, a philanthropist, icon of compassion and champion of education. There wouldn’t be this platinum jubilee year this day if not for those first four lady teachers Mother Martha, Sr Clare, Sr Lourdes and Sr Gertrude who carried forward the two principal functions of imparting knowledge and inculcating gospel values. I am grateful for the first Council of Management and thereafter the subsequent Councils of Management who led BES with a vision and passion. Therefore, I owe my grateful thanks to the Almighty God and to all the farsighted committed leaders of yester years who have sustained the vison of our Founder and made a difference by making education a joyful experience for all the students.
Along with our BES goal, the platinum Jubilee theme is “Transformative Education for the Fullness of Life towards human fraternity” with a focus on the 4 priorities. I desire that we surround ourselves with people who have great dreams, ardent desires and ambitions which will enable us to achieve the goal of education. I am confident that all our institutions translate the Jubilee theme into a reality in the present context.
This issue of Suvidya Lahari brings you glimpses of the meaningful Province wise celebrations of the Inaugural ceremonies of the Platinum Jubilee Year.
In order to be successful in the new year and always, stay focused on your goals and develop a positive attitude to attain them. The road may be rough, the journey may be tough and the experience may be bitter at times, but they are stepping stones to your future thrones.
