Feb 14 :Every year Makar Sankranti is celebrated in the month of January. This festival is dedicated to the Hindu religious Sun God Surya. This significance of Surya is traceable to the Vedic texts, particularly the Gayatri Mantra, a sacred hymn found in Rigveda. Sankranti means transmigration of the Sun from one zodiac to another in Indian astronomy. Makar Sankranti is considered a day of happiness and prosperity by Hindus. It is believed that taking a bath in the Ganges, on this day, is auspicious. Devotees also pay tribute to the Sun God and express gratitude towards him for blessing the Universe with his warm and glowing rays.

Bethany School raised the banner of solidarity with our Hindu brotheren to make Makara Sankranti a memorable one. Therefore in preparation we conducted speech competition on the topic "Makara Sankranti the festival of Harvest" , Rangoli designs on sankranti theme and Kite flying. It thrilled the students to participate. The speciality of Celebration is Pongal dish, decorations, flour dishes, home coming, prayers, processions, gift giving.

The three days of the Pongal festival are called Bhogi Pongal, Surya Pongal and Maattu Pongal. On 7 th of January 2022 we celebrated with the solemn arrival of A Farmer and Haridasu who are the symbol of Bogi. The Chief Guest Mrs Anuradha the Mahila police of Uppudi inaugurated the Bogi Manta( fire) later teachers and students danced around the Bogi Mantta. VIII Class Students sponsered paisam to all the participants. It was an unforgettable memory of this year.
