Aug 15: To commemorate the 71st Independence Day a programme was organized at the prison at KR Nagar. It was conducted by the help of 3 schools, St Rita's Primary School, Dhorahally, Jnan Jyothi Primary School, Beria and St Joseph's Primary and High School, both sections Kannada and English medium. The programme began with a prayer followed by the welcome speech and welcome dance. The students from the participating schools put up various items like dances, patriotic songs and a play based on the life of St Maximilian Kolbe highlighting the importance of freedom and the word of God. The parable of the Prodigal Son was also enacted by the students stressing on the theme of Conversion of the Heart. Sr Paul and Rev. Fr Antony Swamy, our Parish Priest spoke on this occasion addressing the inmates of the prison. In their speeches they called upon the prisoners to bring about a change of heart and that in the struggles of life they must work hard. Mrs Veena, a teacher from St Joseph High School proposed the vote of thanks and expressed our gratitude to Mr Suresh, the Superintendent for allowing us to organize the program. She also thanked our Parish Priest, Superiors Sr Lorna and Sr Simon and all the five Headmistresses and teachers, for their presence and participation. The students, for performing the various meaningful items and the prisoners for attending the program. Sr Clotty and Sr Ursuline who are in-charge of the Prison Ministry from Hunsur also were present. The programme concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. Sweets were distributed to the Prisoner. It was indeed an enriching and joyful experience.
