Oct 2: A Seminar on “Good Parenting” for parents of Bethany School, Garchuk, Guwahati was held on 15 and 16th September. Sr Edleburgh the Coordinator for Education of Northeast was present and she addressed the gathering. She presented TEN important tips on ‘Good Parenting’ through power point presentation.
She spoke on parents comparing their children with others or insulting them will affect their life. They should be respected and cared with love. Parents need to be a role model for their children in all aspects. She also narrated many examples and shared her own experiences in the field of education.
Ms Pitambari Bhagla the Resource Person from Oxford University Press, spoke on Child Psychology and the different methods to be used in upbringing their children. The age old method of upbringing children will not work as the time and the situations are totally different today. We have more of nuclear families with more of comforts and facilities. She also spoke on, to have a broader mind and develop the skills in order to be fit to understand the child psychology. She insisted on to accept first the self, then the parents will surely be able to accept their child. Not to force upon, but to allow the child to grow. Very important thing is to encourage their children. To feed their minds with positive thoughts and to allow the child to be what she/he is. Parents need to sit and talk, and spend time with their children and understand their feelings.
Parents came in good number and they all benefitted much from this seminar. Teachers had good interactions with the parents to discuss about the problems of their children. They appreciated for the opportunity and were grateful.
