June 25: Catholic Association of South Kanara (CASK) has been conducting ‘Personality Development or Soft Skills’ Programme in Schools/Colleges of Mangalore since 2011. It has the credit of providing this highly useful programme for more than 2,750 students. Today, every institution worth its name is providing Soft Skills programme to its students. Just recently, Mangalore University announced that all under-graduate and post-graduate courses will have Soft Skills as an add-on course.

It took some time to promote the concept that TEACHERS also require such a programme because Soft Skills define ‘professionalism’ that is essential for success in any chosen field. It includes inter-personal, intra-personal and social skills as well as leadership and management skills that act as the driving force to enrich and empower teachers to perform better.

With the above goals in mind, the Bethany Education Society joined hands with CASK to provide Teacher Enrichment programme for 25 teachers of 4 schools run by the Bethany Society in Mangalore, during the academic year 2018-19. The Inauguration of the programme was held on Saturday, 23rd June 2018 at St Theresa’s School, Bendur-Mangalore. Rev Fr Dionysius Vas, Rector, St Aloysius Institutions was the Chief Guest and Rev Sr Mariette BS, Secretary, Bethany Education Society was the Guest of Honour. Mrs Patsy Lobo, Coordinator of the Programme on behalf of CASK welcomed and informed about the objectives of the programme – a total of 14 topics will be covered during this academic year, with experienced experts functioning as Resource persons. Mr Richard Rodrigues, President-CASK gave details of some CASK programmes and informed that this programme is being sponsored by his sister Jessy Vas from Mumbai and her husband Denis Vas who expired recently.
