On the edges of the Western Ghats, in the district of Shimoga in Karnataka state, is a small tranquil town named Sagar. To cater to the needs of the government and other transferable officials it was decided to start an English medium primary school. Permission was obtained from the Deputy Director of Public instruction on July 1^st 1968. So St Joseph’s English Medium a parallel section to the Kannada medium was started in 1969. Sr Pascalia who was the Headmistress of Kannada medium higher primary school was also the headmistress of the English medium higher primary school for all official purposes. Then the parish priest, Fr. Augustine Fernandes blessed and laid the foundation to construct the school building on July 16th 1969.

On 2^nd May1980, during the tenure Mother Gemma, the then Superior General took the responsibility to demolish the old school building to construct a new one. On 6^th October 1980 ground floor and first floor of the English medium school foundation stone was blessed by Bishop Alphonsus Mathias. Later as number increased in Kannada Medium School and there was no sufficient class rooms to run the school, in the year 1983 the first floor of the English Medium was generously given for the use of the Kannada Medium School. In 2006, Sr Tressy was appointed Superior and headmistress of the English medium school who started an additional section in 2007. Sr Susan then improved the standard of the school and at present the school is well furnished.

The students are good at curricular and co-curricular activities bagging prizes both in the State and even on the National level. Sr Simon as the Superior and the Headmistress of the School is helping the students to march forward with the goal and objectives of the Bethany Educational Society.
