The Priests of the Foreign Missions of Paris had started St Ignatius Primary School at Gadenahally in 1937. On the request of Fr S.P. Fernandes, the parish priest of St Ignatius Church, our Founder sent five Sisters to Gadenahally on May 24, 1950 to run the primary school which sheltered four classes with 35 students and to render medical help to the sick. Sr Philomena as the first superior and Sr Genevieve as the first headmistress took charge of the primary school. Srs Louisa, Lucretia and Philomelle joined them as staff members.
The inspector who visited the School was pleased at the progress and appreciated the Sisters for the efforts made to train the ignorant children of the neglected village. In 1969 Fr Thomas Vazhapilly with the financial support of the Taluk Board constructed a new school building consisting of two rooms to accommodate the additional classes. The honourable dignitaries, viz. Shri Lukkappa, the State Minister, Shri K.A. Hanume Gowda, Taluk Board President, Shri Thimmegowda, Inspector of Schools and other officers at the inaugural function testified to the all-round education and training imparted to the poor children of the villages in and around Gadenahally.
The hard works of our Sisters, the lay staff and the good will of the people have been blessed by God. St Ignatius Higher Primary School with nine sections has received permanent recognition. The strength of the School is 90 The school dropouts are motivated to rejoin the school.
