‘Together may we give our children the roots to grow and the wings to fly’ is a famous quote defining in brief the relationship between a parent and the school. The management of St Theresa’s School had organised an orientation program for the parents of the new entrants to help them understand the rules of the school so that they can guide their children accordingly.
A prayer dance by the students invoked God’s blessings on the gathering. Sr Lourdes, the Principal welcomed the gathering and read out the rules of the school and explained that every Theresian is expected to follow the same.
The Chief Guest for the day was Fr Arun Lobo, Director of Shanthi Kiran Counselling Center, a unit of Catholic Diocese of Mangalore.
Fr Arun spoke on the topic ‘Shaping the Z Generation’. He explained to the parents in brief about the concept of understanding and guiding the children of Z generation in a very interesting manner. Conflict with parents, mood disruptions and risk behaviour were explained to be the main reasons for storm and stress factors. Parents were advised not to emphasis too much on not being responsible, obedient, respectful, dutiful etc. Fr Arun emphasised very strongly on advising the parents to give their children freedom, but with responsibility. He continued the session by explaining very briefly about dealing with the problem of concentration, problem in study habits, excessive mobile use, not being responsible and respectful and on the concept of morality and spirituality. He concluded the session by explaining about the different styles of parenting. It was a much needed refreshing session for the whole audience and was very much appreciated by everyone. The principal thanked Fr Arun by offering a flower pot for the meaningful session. The program ended by singing the National Anthem.
