Jan 23: The Bethany Educational Society (BES) Mangalore Province proudly hosted its inaugural BES Convention at Maryvale High School, Kinnigoli, and Sacred Hearts’ High School, Kulshekar, on November 19 and 20, 2024. The event saw an impressive turnout of 436 participants from BES institutions across the Province. The convention was formally opened by Sr Sandhya BS, the Secretary of BES Mangalore, who honoured the legacy of Servant of God, RFC Mascarenhas, the Society’s visionary Founder. She lauded his tireless advocacy for education, particularly for the marginalized and women, and his unwavering belief in education as a transformative force for personal and societal advancement.

The convention offered three enlightening sessions led by esteemed speakers. Sr Dr Mariette BS delved into the vision of RFC Mascarenhas regarding education, the foundational values of BES, and the profile of a BES teacher, highlighting the philosophical principles that continue to guide the Society's work. Sr Dr Lilly Pereira’s session on environmental stewardship called for urgent action against climate change and emphasized the need for sustainable practices to preserve the planet for future generations. Lastly, Rev. Fr Stany D’Souza, Vicar General of the Diocese of Shimoga, delivered a compelling talk on justice and harmony, urging attendees to champion justice, equality, and fraternity in their communities, and to foster a culture of love and peace.

The convention proved to be an enriching experience, offering participants a reflective space to connect with the teachings of RFC Mascarenhas. Many left feeling reinvigorated and motivated to effect positive change in both their personal and professional lives. The event also provided a meaningful opportunity for spiritual communion, strengthening the bonds of solidarity among BES educators. The gathering was warmly embraced by Sr Mariola BS, the BES Province Coordinator for Education, and masterfully facilitated by Mrs Jyothi Sinthiya Serrao and Mrs Savitha Menezes, with Mrs Coney P. Vaz and Mrs Lavita Jyothi delivering the vote of thanks. The First Province BES Convention not only celebrated the enduring legacy of RFC Mascarenhas but also reignited the passion and commitment of the BES community to the noble mission of Bethany Education.
