Jan 23: The BES Convention Southern Province, held on November 9th and 23rd, 2024, brought together educators from various esteemed institutions, including St Paul EMHSS School, Thenhipalam, St Michael Girls HSS, West Hill, RCUP School Pallikkunnu, Msgr Raymond Memorial School Chempanoda, and St Joseph Convent School, Kalpetta. The event began with a formal inauguration by Sr Judy Varghese, Provincial Superior of Southern Province, who, alongside the provincial team, local manager Sr Lillis, Sr Josephine Shylaja, and heads of institutions, was warmly welcomed as they lit the ceremonial lamp, marking the start of the proceedings.
Sr Judy Varghese delivered a heartfelt opening address, welcoming all participants to the convention. The first session, conducted by a guest speaker, emphasized the significance of team building, followed by a tea break. Sr Lillis then led a session on the spirituality inherent in Bethany education, illustrating the importance of finding God within one’s heart through the story of two woodcutters. She also discussed Gandhiji’s Three ‘H’ – head, hand, and heart – highlighting the integration of intellect, action, and spirit in education, and quoted Tagore’s poem to exemplify spiritual awakening.

The convention continued with Sr Alphonsa, Provincial Councilor, who focused on the theme of living a purposeful life, stressing the core values of Bethany Educational Society. She discussed the four priorities of the Platinum Jubilee: upholding justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity; promoting peace and harmony; caring for Mother Earth; and fostering education for excellence and self-reliance. Following lunch, Sr Sujaya led a session on pedagogy, exploring the five-step teaching methodology of Bethany Educational Society: context, experience, reflection, action, and evaluation. The convention concluded with the honouring of teachers who participated in an essay competition, followed by a tea break and the departure of participants. This enriching day provided valuable reflection, growth, and inspiration for educators to continue their mission with renewed passion and dedication.
